2024 Glass Art Internships
Sponsored in collaboration with Crafting the Future, UrbanGlass and GlassRoots
The 2024 Glass Art Internship is a 12 – 15 week paid internship designed to increase the participation of those self-identified as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) in the field of glass art.
Internship objectives:
- The Glassroots portion of the program will be tailored to the specific interests of the participant. It may include gaining teaching experience and assisting in the general operation of the Education Department while providing a broad understanding of non-profit arts administration, fundraising or marketing.
- Interns at UrbanGlass will shadow multi-week university and outreach programs to build technical skills while gaining teaching experience and assisting in the general operation of the Education Department. This includes prep for outreach and offsite workshops, education materials inventory, digital content creation and brainstorming future programs with the Education team to serve our community better.
- Expose participants to the various departments and roles within a glass-art educational organization, including development, programs, recruitment, marketing and technical/studio assistance through a lead project.
- Expose participants to glass-art making including but not limited to, glassblowing, flamework, kiln forming, mosaic and stained glass.
- Increase the participation of BIPOC in the field of glass-art, in both studio and administrative roles.
- Eliminate financial barriers to participation in such an internship. This is a paid internship program, paying interns at the rate of $20 per hour and covering their mass transit travel costs to the internship and any special events.
- The new application season will be in early 2025. Stay tuned!
The focus of each internship will depend on the Intern’s background and professional interests.
